TRADES UNION ANNOUNCEMENT
Latest Restructures – 21st January 2021
The Bank continues to face cost challenges and has regrettably has been looking to further reduce staff numbers as part of its drive to ensure its continued financial viability. To that end, Unite has attended consultation meetings with senior management regarding proposed restructures in:
- Mortgage Operations
- Digital
- COO First Line risk
- Finance
- Brand, Customer, Marketing and Communications.
As always, job losses will be achieved by a combination of removal of vacant posts, attrition of staff and restructure and redundancy. There are no changes to the current redundancy terms which can be found on the intranet – Policies / People Policies / Severance Terms Agreement.
Job losses are always regrettable. However, given the repeated exercises that we have been through over the past 10 years, the last one being in Q4 2020, this feels especially painful. We have suggested some alternative methods of reaching the same goal with a greater voluntary component, for example by giving staff in selection pools an option to preference to exit where possible, which the Bank has accepted.
Unite is dismayed by the proximity of these proposals to the last redundancy and restructure exercise, and continues to be concerned about the effect they will have on staff being made redundant in the current climate. We will be especially watchful for the impact on workload for those who remain, and members can feel free to talk to us in confidence about these issues.
We know that this is a very difficult time for members, and that there will be a great deal of uncertainty around. Such exercises are never easy, but rest assured that Unite is committed to protecting members wherever possible, and ensuring the best possible outcome achievable for all concerned.
Should you have any questions or concerns after reading the communications put out by the business, and the accompanying FAQs, then please contact Unite for advice.
We hold a phone advice surgery for members on Mon- Fri from 9.00am – 10.30am. Outside of that time we may be in meetings. Rest assured all conversations with us are confidential.
